The Bold and the Beautiful's Obba Babatundé lands recurring role in Little Fires Everywhere

Hulu's upcoming series Little Fires Everywhere has cast The Bold and the Beautiful's Obba Babatundé (Julius Avant) -- and his new role sounds a lot like Maya and Nicole's overly strict dad.

Hot on the heels of the exciting news that General Hospital actress Jaime Ray Newman (ex-Kristina Cassadine) has joined the cast of the upcoming Hulu series Little Fires Everywhere comes word that another talented soap opera star is joining her: Daytime Emmy winner Obba Babatund (Julius Avant) has signed on in a recurring capacity opposite leads Reese Witherspoon, Kerry Washington, Rosemarie DeWitt, and Joshua Jackson.

Little Fires Everywhere, based on Celeste Ng's bestselling book of the same name, follows the intertwined fates of the picture-perfect Richardson family and an enigmatic mother and daughter who upend their lives. The story explores the weight of secrets, the nature of art and identity, the ferocious pull of motherhood, and the danger in believing that following the rules can avert disaster.

According to Deadline, Babatund is set to play George Wright, who sounds a lot like B&B's Julius. George is a devoutly religious father of two who does his best to support his strong-willed daughter Mia (Kerry Washington) as she heads off to art school. But when his daughter's decisions conflict with his morals, George finds himself having to make a choice that he was never prepared to make.

As B&B fans know, Babatund has an impressive rsum under his belt, having appeared in more than 17 stage productions, 30 theatrical films, 60 made-for-television movies, and many primetime series. He joined the cast of The Bold and the Beautiful as Maya and Nicole's father, Julius Avant, in 2015 and won the 2016 Daytime Emmy Award for "Outstanding Guest Performer in a Drama Series" for his work on the daytime series.

In addition to filming Little Fires Everywhere, Babatund will be returning to season three of the CBS drama series S.W.A.T., where he recurs as Daniel Harrelson Sr., the father of Hondo (Shemar Moore, ex-Malcolm Winters, The Young and the Restless). He also stars as Dean Fairbanks in season three of Netflix's drama Dear White People.
