B&B nominated for Rockie Award

The Banff Television Festival has announced that The Bold and the Beautiful has been nominated for a Rockie Awards in the Soap Opera category.

"The Banff World Television Awards have been recognizing programming excellence for over 30 years and we are so proud that the Rockies have become one of the highest, global accolades in the television industry," says Georges Leclere, executive producer of the Banff World Television Awards. "It's exciting to see such superb quality in television programming and this year's 2010 nominees are great examples of what creative talent can achieve."

The Bold and the Beautiful's nomination comes for the series' submission of episodes 5697 and 5698, which aired on Friday, November 20, and Monday, November 23, 2009. These episodes, which explore the sensitive subject of dying with dignity. The episode featured Betty White (Ann Douglas), Susan Flannery (Stephanie Forrester), and Alley Mills (Pam Douglas).

In the episodes, the two sisters are baffled after receiving a strange phone call from their mother, who announces a sudden visit to Los Angeles from her home in Chicago. After arriving in Los Angeles, Ann makes a shocking announcement to her daughters, along with an equally gut-wrenching request. The daughters are faced with the dilemma of honoring their mother's dying wish, even if it runs counter to societal norms.

The BANFF organizers designated 68 jury panels from over 30 countries around the world to select Rockie Award nominees in each of the 34 categories. There will be 5 separate award ceremonies for winners from each of these 34 categories, culminating in the Banff World Television Awards on June 15, 2010.

This is the first year that the Rockies have included a soap opera category. The Bold and the Beautiful is the only U.S. soap opera to be nominated. The other two nominees are the United Kingdom's Eastenders and Where is Elisa? from Chile.
