Kanan sets the record straight on arrest warrant, MIA status from B&B

An arrest warrant was recently issued for former daytime hunk Sean Kanan. A report on the warrant by a local TV station resulted in misinformation that has many B&B fans bitterly disappointed. Kanan's troubles stem for a DUI arrest last year.

A recent local TV news report shocked and worried the friends and former co-workers of Sean Kanan (ex-Deacon Sharpe, The Bold and the Beautiful; ex-AJ Quartermaine, General Hospital). The report, by a Los Angeles CBS station called the actor a "no show" and announced that a warrant had been issued for his arrest. The report also implied that he was AWOL from the set of The Bold and the Beautiful as well.

With a personal history that includes arrests, substance and alcohol abuse, and a reputation for being a bad boy, something that translated well into Kanan's TV roles as bad boy, Kanan's friends had reason to worry.

The arrest warrant story was accurate, but incomplete. A Los Angeles Superior Court had issued a warrant for Sean Kanan's arrest, because Kanan failed to appear in court for a progress hearing related to his December 2007 DUI case. Kanan's failure to appear, however, was simply an error, not a sign of relapse or negligence.

When he heard about the news story and warrant, Kanan's public relations agency responded on his behalf by stating that the actor "has done everything to comply fully with the court's requests, [and] only learned about the arrest warrant from friends who saw the television news piece".

"I take this situation very seriously," Kanan personally explained. "I have been working very hard on creating positive changes in my life. I would never knowingly neglect a court date or any conditions placed on me by the court system.

After pleading no contest to charges related to his August 2007 arrest in Hollywood, Kanan was sentenced in December 2007 to five years probation, 15 days of community service, and an alcohol education program. His previous DUI occurred in 1998.

The website for the Los Angeles CBS station indicated Kanan was also AWOL from B&B, unwittingly creating a flurry of speculation that the actor was returning to reprise his role. They used the phrase "missing in action," but they meant Deacon Sharpe, Kanan's on-screen alter ego - not the actor. Fans have been clamoring for Deacon to return to B&B from the moment the character exited the canvas in 2005.

A return to B&B remains nothing more than than rumor at this point, but that hasn't stopped fans from lobbying the CBS soap on Kanan's behalf. Fans of Kanan can catch him in the upcoming flick Jack Rio, a film co-written by Matt Borlenghi (ex-Ziggy, B&B), coming out later this year. The film also stars soap glitterati Monti Sharpe (ex-David, Guiding Light), Nadia Bjorlin (Chloe, Days of Our Lives), Justin Torkildson (ex-Rick, B&B), and Tristan Rogers (ex-Robert, General Hospital). Kanan also recently appeared in Hack, a horror movie, with fellow B&B alum Adrienne Frantz.
